What is KYBELLA®?

KYBELLA is a prescription medication used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat under the chin (submental fat), also called "Double Chin." KYBELLA® is the only FDA-approved injectable treatment that destroys fat cells in the treatment area under the chin to improve your profile.

Kybella is a non-surgical injectable technique used to target fat under the chin. The process uses a series of injections of deoxycholic acid to attack the fat cells in this area. No incisions are required and downtime is minimal in most cases.

The best candidate is an adult 18 years of age or older with moderate to severe fat under the chin. You may not be a good candidate if you have had or plan to have facial surgery, have trouble swallowing, are pregnant or nursing, or have an infection or medical condition at or near the planned injection site.

How does Kybella® work?

The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a natural molecule in the body that helps break down and absorb dietary fats. When injected into the fat under the chin, KYBELLA® destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so no further treatment is expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal.

What to expect with KYBELLA®?

Before treatment begins, your healthcare specialist will examine the area under and around your chin to determine if KYBELLA® is right for you. Your specialist will then tailor your treatment to the amount of fat under your chin and your aesthetic goals.

The number of treatment sessions needed varies for each person. Multiple treatments may be needed to achieve optimal results. You can receive up to six Kybella treatments, with at least one month between each session.

INSTRUCTIONS AFTER TREATMENT

• After your treatment, you should expect swelling and redness. You may also experience bruising, pain, numbness, and induration. Typically this will take less than 5 days and for some patients it can take up to 14 days. If symptoms continue beyond 10 days or if other reactions occur, please contact the office.
• You may choose to apply ice to the area after treatment, but you must do so carefully. You can apply a cold pack to the area for 20 minutes every hour, and you can do this every hour for up to 3 days.
• Do not participate in strenuous activities for 3 days after treatment.
• Sleep with your head elevated on at least 2 and preferably 3 pillows.
• Do not scratch, pinch, or traumatize the area in any way. Do not massage or manipulate the injection site.
• You can apply your normal skincare and sunscreen regimen normally.
